For my first blog post, I’d like to share a little more in-depth information about myself, and all the wonderful things I can do for your company!

About Me

Hiya! I’m Katie Roberts, leader, designer and creator extraordinaire. In early childhood, I knew creating was my calling. I first fell in love with acting, putting myself in another’s shoes and creating fully realized characters. Then my passion moved towards writing. My late grandmother told me it was my calling, and I’m happy to have utilized my writing skills on many different projects. Bottom line, I’m a creator, hungry for knowledge and always looking to improve myself and grow as a person.

My brother and I bonded through playing games early in life and, even now, we love to talk about what we’re playing. I remember firing up E.T. the Extra Terrestrial on the Atari and being utterly confused about why I kept ending up in a cavernous hole I had to emerge from using “neck flying” powers. That game was truly a weird treasure!

Some of my favorite games are Final Fantasy VII, original and the Remake, World of Warcraft, the Diablo series, Doki Doki Literature Club, and most recently, the smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3. I love games that I can lose myself in and am a big fan of the RPG genre. When I’m not playing games, I love a good nature walk, reading, writing, painting, drawing, sewing, crafting, and figuring out issues with my creaky, old, unique property in beautiful Austin, Texas.

What can I do for you?

With over a decade of design experience, I am a passionate servant leader ready to assist in building talent, creating teams, helping team members with career progression, mentorship, and setting vision goals for design. As a Lead Designer for around five years, I’ve developed a skill set that can assist your company at building amazing teams, cultivating creative and enriching environments, and putting out solid and polished products. I believe the team makes the project, and love seeking feedback and creating the best processes and practices to lead a project to success.

Creatively, I bring a unique and fresh perspective to narrative design, player experience, and character design and creation. I’ve brought quests and dialog to life in a myriad of fantasy realms, and in a more realistic sports centered environment in NBA 2K. Most of my professional writing for games has been within the “E rating” category, but I do not believe that is a limitation, and have been able to create tons of approachable and engaging family friendly content. My personal works take a darker tone, so I’m also able to reach deep into my core to produce more adult and serious themes. I believe life inspires design, and there’s so much in this fantastical world to pull from.

While the above are my specialties, I consider myself a design generalist. There have been many times in my career I have stepped up to fill holes that needed talent. I love a good challenge. I’ve worked on UI/UX, combat, encounter design, tool design, level design and world building, and even did a little coding (and by little, I mean little) in C# for a project in Unity. I’ve learned many different game editors and tons of different proprietary tools, even pitching ideas to make them more efficient for the design team.

In short, I’m a valuable all-around asset to your team. A leader, a creator, someone willing to do just about anything to see a project succeed. I want to help you create the next big thing in games. Are you ready to “Press Play”?
