Description
Level Name: Achaea
World release: Aquila
Project name: Pirate101
Achaea is nestled into a lush hillside in Achaean Skyway, its land sprawling to a dark precipice, The Hydra Cave, home of the fearsome many-headed Hydra.
Achaean Docks are feathered out, plenty of room for troops to join their brethren in the nearby campgrounds. Two arched entrances to the camp within a great stone wall flank a statue of an Eagle warrior. The warrior is poised to spill blood, in a battle stance, carved from the finest marble with accents of gold on its armor and weaponry. A small fountain encircles it, acting as a moat to keep wear and tear to a minimum.
Beyond the statue and through the archways is a mighty camp lined with tightly packed tents adorned with red and gold. A grand tent is centrally located, the commander’s tent, its ornate décor singing of the leader’s great feats.
An archery range sits near the mass of camp tents, fenced in to keep practice contained, and accidental injury to a minimum. Across from the archery range, a sparring ring invites fearsome warriors to put their swords to the test against one another or take a few wide swings at wooden training dummies.
Ruined stone structures surround the area, permanent dwellings that no longer house residents, their fear of the Hydra and the changes in the lands of Achaea causing them to flee.
Beyond the campgrounds, a stone path leads to a few clearings. Although most are green, full of life, and running with waterfalls, a few have a feeling of scourge upon them. Little more than dirt, and a few ruins. Rainbows dance over waterfalls that are running off a structure high above, a waterway that’s overcome an ancient bridge, only home now to a crystal clear ever-flowing stream.
Caves, stone benches, and ruined columns litter Achaea, but just beyond the towering waterway, a shift starts to take hold. The lush green, waterfalls, and rainbows cease, replaced with lifeless trees shed of all their leaves, appearing to be all but broken and dying. Storm clouds swirl overhead as the stone path winds to its bluff high above, so high all other sights can be seen below, to The Hydra Cave.
A chill emits from the cave, it’s steep mouth wide, almost as if it screams in great terror. Achaea’s land ends at this cursed spot, and whatever emanates from within is slowly taking over the beauty that once was throughout … the lush green … the shiny rainbows … the peaceful waterfalls … fouling it into darkness.

Narrative
After successfully conquering the Minotaur and his sons, and rescuing Theseus from the Labyrinth, The Pirate returns to Argos, who is faithfully attempting to keep the Labyrinth locked up tight, sealing it from the outside world with every ounce of strength he possesses.
Argos can’t be expected to hold the door shut for eternity, but he is certain he has an idea for the ultimate solution to keep all the horrors locked up tight behind the door.
On the isle of Achaea lives a fierce Hydra, chained in a cave at the very top of a hill. The residents of Achaea have failed to find the secret to conquer the Hydra, and thus rely on the chain to keep it from wreaking havoc on the land.
The Hydra’s chain is the only shackle in existence heavy enough to properly seal the Labyrinth, so The Pirate must find the secret to defeating the Hydra, so Argos can do his duty … but not be expected to hold the door forever.
Argos will need to accompany The Pirate to The Hydra Cave, as he is the only person that can break the chain from the Hydra after its defeat. But before heading to Achaea, The Pirate will need to seek the secrets to defeating the Hydra from the Oracle on the isle of Delphos.
The Oracle is familiar with the Hydra and can provide the secret to its defeat. The Hydra is many-headed, consisting of heads of Scarlet, Amethyst, and Cobal. The main head, the one that is the key to victory, is the Ebon head. To defeat the Hydra, the Pirate must cut down the Ebon head. Only then will the Hydra be defeated. Even after its demise, it may only lie dormant for a small time before its rebirth. It’s suggested The Pirate be hasty when seeking to remove its shackle.
The chain cannot simply be removed from the Hydra, however, after its defeat. First the chain must be burned by a Sacred Flame of Golden Apollo. The Sacred Flame can be acquired from doing different tasks for High Priest Chryses in Nova Aquila.
With the Sacred Flame in hand and the knowledge of how to defeat the Hydra, The Pirate is sent forth on their adventure to Achaea.
The Pirate travels through dangerous terrain, running into incidental fights and characters along the way, until they arrive at the tip top of Achaea and the eerie entrance to the Hydra Cave.
Once in the cave, The Pirate is faced with a challenging battle against the fearsome Hydra. The Hydra grows many heads throughout the battle, and at specific times the cowardly Ebon head hides under the water and pops back up, adding to the challenge.
Upon the Hydra’s defeat, Argos secures the Hydra’s chain, relieved he can now secure the Labyrinth for good and will no longer have to hold the door closed himself for eternity.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Achaea Docks:
Four wooden docks jut out from a circular planked walkway, its centerpiece an ornate statue. Paths flank the sides of the statue where two entrances lead to a small town lined with tents. A few permanent structures line the area, including an ornate banquet hall, temple, and a few other city central work halls.
Within the area containing battle tents, there’s an archery range, and a practice ring, highlighting this is a planning and training ground for troops heading in to deal with the threat in Achaea.
The area is lush and green, inviting and filled with different residents and warriors in training.
Caledonia:
The region of Caledonia is just beyond Achaea Docks down a stone pathway lined by hillsides. Caledonia is a serene area featuring waterfalls, bright rainbows, and lush green grass. This region dips down into a dry and dirt covered area around another stone path, which is nondescript and appears a bit abandoned. Each area is lined with caves where the enemy or the creatures plaguing the land have taken up residence.
Satyr Grove:
Continuing past Caledonia, is Satyr Grove, home of the Satyrs. They are quite territorial and won’t hesitate to defend their region from any perceived threat. Water features and falls line the area. A few benches and downed columns are found throughout. Different Satyr statues and sculptures can be found sprinkled about the area, as the Satyr are determined to make it clear this region belongs to them.
Themiscyra:
Themiscyra is just beyond a wall where a great river flows atop. This appears to have been a small thriving town, at one point, but the structures have now turned to crumbling stone ruins. The area is still lush with trees, greenery and wildlife, and appears as if nature has taken over crumbling the man-made structures.
Stygia:
Darkness begins to ascend in Stygia, and Achaea is no longer lush and green, but barren, dark and stormy. A heavy storm with lightning hangs over part of the region, and dark purple energy flows around it. Broken down columns and ruined architecture litter the area. Trees in this area appear to just be sticks, slowly dying and succumbing to whatever evil is infecting this region.
Stymphalos:
Stymphalos contains a focal point of a tree trying to survive the curse infecting the topmost area of Achaea. It appears to be combating evil, trying to grow, and keep its lushness.
Magnesia:
A steep hill to a dark precipice, Magnesia is the area leading to the mythical Hydra Cave. This area is steep, brown, void of all greenery, trees, and wildlife, and feels very ominous. At the top, sits The Hydra Cave. This cave is epic and eerie. It beckons, but also chills, seemingly whispering “Do not enter!”
Anixander
Accused of theft by Zeena, Queen of the Amazons, Anixander, leader of the Achaean Centaurs, is absolutely enraged by such claims. On top of their baseless claims of thievery, the Amazons also hold Anixander’s bride, Queen Aurora, captive.
